TODAY: Mother Nature is turning the late-August thermostat back up today. Any patchy morning fog will burn off, leaving us with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 80s. Humidity will also start creeping back into the picture this afternoon. Apparently those cool, comfortable days were just a free trial, and we've reached the end of the subscription.
TONIGHT: Clouds increase with lows in the mid 60s and south winds around 5–10 mph. Most of the night stays dry, but our quiet stretch is officially running out of road as the next weather-maker approaches.
THURSDAY: And Mother Nature is back on the schedule. Showers and thunderstorms become likely during the afternoon with a 70% chance of rain. Some storms could become severe, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall the primary concerns. It'll be humid with highs in the mid 80s, and thunderstorms could continue into Thursday evening before things gradually settle down overnight.
Cumberland County sits closer to the western edge of the more concerning severe-weather setup, with the highest severe and flash-flooding threat currently focused farther east toward the Susquehanna Valley. That doesn't mean we're getting a hall pass. Damaging winds around 60 mph are possible with stronger storms, marginally severe hail is possible, and heavy downpours could produce localized flooding.
SCPAWX BOTTOM LINE: Enjoy today. Mostly sunny, mid 80s and increasingly humid, but Mother Nature keeps the nonsense turned off. Thursday afternoon and evening are a different story, with thunderstorms likely and some potentially becoming severe.
No hype, no panic and no reason to start canceling Thursday plans. Just keep an eye on the forecast and have a way to receive warnings. We'll handle the weather babysitting from here.

Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph — Mother Nature’s still slamming the door on her way out. Great day to walk the LeTort, hit the Carlisle Pike, or pretend Wednesday was a fever dream. Just don’t park under those downtown trees unless you want a free limb with your coffee. FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy in the evening, then clearing like the sky finally finished its AAR after Wednesday’s op. Lows in the upper 40s — back to blankets, because May thinks it’s still winter FTX. West winds around 5 mph in the evening, becoming light and variable — the wind finally stands down.
