Forecast for Wednesday, August 26

TODAY: Mother Nature is turning the thermostat and the humidity back up today. Any patchy morning fog will burn off, leaving us with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 80s. Humidity becomes increasingly noticeable as we head through the afternoon, because apparently those comfortable late-August days were never meant to last.

TONIGHT: Clouds increase with lows in the mid 60s. A few showers could sneak into the area after midnight, but we're not looking at an all-night washout. Think of it as Mother Nature knocking on the door before she comes barging through Thursday.

THURSDAY: Here comes the nonsense. Showers and thunderstorms become likely, especially during the afternoon and evening, with a 70% chance of rain. Some storms could become severe with damaging winds and heavy rainfall. It'll be humid with highs in the mid 80s, and the threat continues into Thursday evening.

Dauphin County is in one of the areas we'll be watching particularly closely. The greatest severe-weather and flash-flooding concern is focused around the Susquehanna Valley, with damaging wind gusts of 60+ mph possible. Heavy downpours and repeated storms could also produce localized flash flooding, while hail is a secondary concern.

SCPAWX BOTTOM LINE: Enjoy today. Sunshine, lower 80s and increasing humidity, but no weather headaches. Thursday afternoon into Thursday night is when Mother Nature gets our attention, with strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall possible.

We're not canceling Thursday, we're not buying milk and bread, and we're certainly not naming the storm system. Just keep an eye on the forecast, have a way to receive warnings, and let us worry about staring at the radar.
