TODAY

Well, after yesterday's soaking, Mother Nature has finally decided we've had enough rain for a while. The remnants of Isaias brought a substantial amount of rainfall across South Central Pennsylvania, leaving plenty of standing water, soggy yards, and probably a few people wondering whether they should have invested in a boat instead of a lawn mower. Thankfully, that system is moving away, and we're finally getting back to some decent weather.

Morning clouds will gradually break apart, allowing partly to mostly sunny skies to develop across Harrisburg, Hershey, Hummelstown, Middletown, and the surrounding communities. Temperatures will climb into the lower 70s this afternoon, with northwest winds around 5 to 10 mph and occasional gusts approaching 20 mph. The sunshine will certainly help with the drying process, although after yesterday's rainfall, the ground isn't going to dry out overnight.

TONIGHT

Skies will become mostly clear this evening as temperatures gradually fall into the middle 50s by Tuesday morning. Winds will diminish, and with all the moisture left behind from yesterday's rainfall, some patchy fog could develop overnight, particularly in the valleys and low-lying areas.

Locations around Hummelstown, Middletown, Halifax, and along the Susquehanna River could see some locally reduced visibility toward daybreak. If you're heading out early Tuesday morning, give yourself a little extra time in case you encounter one of those stubborn fog banks. Otherwise, we're looking at a quiet and comfortable October night.

TOMORROW

Tuesday brings another step up in temperatures, with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s. Most communities should land around 78 degrees, making it feel more like late September than the middle of October. Winds will remain relatively light, and we're expecting dry conditions throughout the day.

Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures approaching 80 degrees in Harrisburg, Hershey, and Middletown. A weak cold front will move through Wednesday evening, but significant rainfall isn't expected with that system. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts, because the second half of the week is going to remind everyone exactly what month we're in.

BOTTOM LINE

The rain is behind us for now, and we're heading into a stretch of pleasant, unusually warm weather through Wednesday. Thursday will be cooler, with highs dropping into the upper 60s as the first cold front settles south of the region. A stronger system arrives Thursday night into Friday, bringing our next meaningful chance for showers. Some locations could see periods of rain Friday morning before conditions begin improving later in the day.

Then comes the real October wake-up call. Saturday temperatures may struggle to climb beyond the lower 50s, with a chilly northwest breeze making it feel even cooler. By Sunday morning, temperatures could fall into the middle 30s, raising the possibility of frost, especially in colder areas around Halifax, Elizabethville, Lykens, and the northern valleys. Even the Harrisburg and Hershey areas could get cold enough for patchy frost if skies clear and winds settle down.

We're not declaring a widespread freeze at this point, but the potential deserves attention as the week progresses. Going from nearly 80 degrees Wednesday to temperatures in the 30s Sunday morning is one hell of a temperature swing. Apparently, October decided to remind everyone that summer's lease has officially expired.
